Dubai Reveals the Design of the World’s First Floating Underwater Mosque

Floating Mosque in Dubai

Dubai has once again pushed the boundaries of architectural innovation and announced the world's first floating underwater mosque.

Dubai proudly unveils the design of the world's first floating underwater mosque to offer a unique experience for worshippers to offer prayers. The main concept of raising this awe-inspiring structure is to represent a harmonious blend of spirituality, innovation, and cutting-edge technology.

Designed by the renowned architect Ahmed Al-Khalifa, the floating underwater mosque will be constructed in the breathtaking waters of the Arabian Gulf. The structure combines the beauty of Islamic architecture with the serenity of blue waters to create a unique and immersive experience for worshippers. The mosque features large glass windows, providing breathtaking views of the marine life and the vibrant coral reefs surrounding it.

As per the design they revealed, one-half of the structure with its sitting areas and a coffee shop will be above the water, while the other is submerged under the water. It features three floors and an underwater deck as a prayer area accommodating up to 50 to 75 worshippers. The submerged level will also have ablution facilities and washrooms.

The IACAD (Islamic Affairs Charitable Activities Department spokesperson stated, "The construction of the floating mosque will start soon." However, the exact location of the mosque has not been revealed yet. But it has been announced that it will close to the shore. Worshippers can access the mosque through a walking bridge connecting the mainland.

The luxury real estate market specialist from MTR Properties stated, "The floating underwater mosque is expected to be completed by 2025 and open to worshippers and visitors. Visitors should adhere to Islamic tradition and customs."

Furthermore, the project is part of Dubai's "Religious Tourism Project" initiative, aimed at establishing Dubai as a global religious tourism hub that welcomes visitors from all religious backgrounds. Next to the announcement of the second world's tallest tower in Dubai, this visionary project underscores Dubai's commitment to pushing the boundaries of architectural innovation while fostering interfaith understanding and tourism.
